Eden Prairie, MN, Dec. 17, 2018 – The Minnesota High Tech Association (MHTA) has named RxFunction as the recipient of the 2018 Tekne Award in the Medical Device category. Held November 29 at the Minneapolis Convention Center, the 19th annual Tekne Awards honor Minnesota companies and individuals who have played a significant role in developing new technologies that positively impact the lives and futures of people living around the world.
MHTA recognized RxFunction for its innovation in leading-edge sensory neuroprosthesis technology that aids patients with loss of foot nerve sensation due to peripheral neuropathy. RxFunction is the creator of Walkasins® Sensory Neuroprosthesis, which helps improve balance and gait in patients who experience balance problems. A long-term clinical trial of Walkasins, the Walk2Wellness study, is currently underway at three U.S. locations (https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT03538756).
“We are delighted to be honored by the Minnesota High Tech Association for our innovation in the medical device technology space”, said Lars Oddsson, PhD, CTO of RxFunction. “With Walkasins, patients who experience unsteady walking from lost foot sensation due to peripheral neuropathy can improve their sense of balance and increase their mobility, ultimately restoring their confidence and quality of life.”
The 2018 Tekne Awards were presented to 16 of Minnesota’s most influential companies, and recognized innovations in software, emerging technologies, STEM workforce development, cybersecurity, biotechnology, advanced manufacturing, and more.
“This year’s Tekne Award winners exemplify the diversity and strength of Minnesota’s innovative economy,” said Margaret Anderson Kelliher, president and CEO of the Minnesota High Tech Association. “The selected organizations all continuously challenge the status quo of the science and technology industries, and we were proud to honor them in this ceremony.”
