Minneapolis, Minnesota — The Minnesota Technology Association (MnTech) is proud to announce the start of the 2021 SciTech Internship Program year. Since 2012, SciTech has successfully placed nearly 2,200 college STEM interns in 140 cities across Minnesota. The SciTech team is looking forward to securing at least 200 more internships in the year ahead.
Designed to build and retain Minnesota’s STEM workforce, SciTech provides employers with a fifty percent wage match worth up to $2,500 per intern. At least 200 wage matches are available on a first come, first hire basis between now and August 31, 2022. To be eligible, businesses must have fewer than 250 employees worldwide.
“The SciTech programs helps small startups like Abilitech Medical be able to hire additional resources to cover the workload,” says Mark Oreschnick, Director of Sustaining and Continuation Engineering, at the Eden Prairie medical device company. “The tight budgets that need to be adhered to makes this program very valuable.”

“SciTech fulfills a niche and allows for STEM students to experience work at smaller companies that they otherwise wouldn’t have been able to work at and permits students to gain further perspective and experience,” says Tan-Show Beall, Biomedical Engineering graduate student at the University of Minnesota and intern at Monteris Medical. “I’ve gained a broad perspective on the career paths that I can take, so I have ‘solidified’ my long-term plans after participating in this program and finding out what I like and don’t like to do. This has raised my confidence level as well in that I am able to function as an engineer and truly contribute.”
The SciTech team recruits hundreds of college students from across the state to create a pool of prescreened candidates eager for hands-on experience in their fields of study. Employers post jobs for free on the SciTechMN job board and may hire up to five interns per program year with no lifetime limit. The program is designed with small businesses in mind: employers make their own hiring decisions, and the paperwork is minimal.
SciTech is administered by the Minnesota Technology Association through a grant from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED).
