MINNEAPOLIS, MN, August 23, 2021 – Access Airways announces the Quicksteer Bougie™, a new product that greatly improves anesthesia procedures performed on patients with difficult airways.
The device allows dynamic two-way articulation through difficult airways using intuitive, light fingertip movements. It is operated using a single hand, allowing the operator to simultaneously deploy the laryngoscope. The device is designed to be familiar and intuitive, and simpler than using a bronchoscope, while providing even more articulation and is designed to provide maximum visibility into the airway during procedures using either direct or video laryngoscopy. Two-way articulation enables clinicians to move under the tongue and epiglottis then recurve through the vocal cords, all using sensitive, fingertip controls.

I was immediately convinced of Quicksteer’s intuitive and problem-solving design. It is even more clear that this product will improve patient outcomes through the device’s improvements to the intubation procedure,” said a Director of the University of Minnesota, Earl E. Bakken Medical Devices Center.
There are an estimated 25 million planned surgical procedures in the U.S. every year almost all requiring intubation procedures. In addition, there are emergency vehicles and emergency rooms that routinely intubate patients, which includes COVID-19 patients.
The Quicksteer Bougie is Class I, 510K exempt, and the pathway to reimbursement codes is very clear. The device has received a National Science Foundation Grant to make way for a major, published study at the University of Minnesota Medical School, in the Department of Anesthesiology.
The Quicksteer Bougie was conceptualized by a 20-year anesthesia veteran based on a desire to see more patients see safer, quicker, and less injurious procedures.
