MEDICAL ALLEY, MN – Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota (BCBS of MN) announced on March 31 that its CEO, Dr. Craig Samitt, will retire on May 3 after nearly three years leading one of the state’s largest and most influential healthcare organizations.
Samitt has played a major role in driving forward the healthcare industry as a whole. During his BCBS tenure, Samitt declared racism a public health crisis and entered into a six-year, value-based care agreement with Allina Health that aims to curb health care cost inflation by up to 10%.
In addition to serving as CEO of BCBS of MN, Samitt has served on the Medical Alley Association board of directors since 2019.
“On behalf of the entire board of the Medical Alley Association, I want to thank Craig Samitt for his leadership and remarkable commitment to the health of our communities during an incredibly challenging time in our industry,” said James Rogers, chairman of the Medical Alley Association Board of Directors and Chief Business Development Officer of Mayo Clinic. “His dedication to making health care more equitable was an inspiration to all of us while we, as a community, continue to address the impact of racism and inequity on health.”
