SAINT PAUL, MN, (June 23, 2020) – Today, the following 47 Minnesota companies, nonprofits, trade associations, and chambers of commerce reacted in opposition to President Trump’s recent executive order suspending immigration visas. Our statement is as follows:
We stand with our foreign-born employees, many of whom are here on the classes of visa restricted by President Trump’s recent Executive Order. We oppose this order and its aim to reduce or eliminate access to these important visas, including H-1B’s, H-2B’s, L’s and J’s.
Minnesota’s economy is able to succeed and grow and create more jobs due to our ability to access the world’s best talent, and these employees bring unique skills and experiences that complement our workforce and our customer base. Further, research shows that diverse teams perform at a higher level – our organizations benefit from the varied experiences and perspectives these employees bring.
Limiting access to global talent puts American companies at a competitive disadvantage. It also deprives Minnesota of these highly capable residents, the contributions they make to their communities, and the economic activity they generate.
We urge policymakers to recognize the important role foreign-born workers play in our state and national economy and join us in asking President Trump and his Administration to rescind this order.
