Tesla will make Medtronic ventilators at New York gigafactory

“[Medtronic CEO Omar] Ishrak said that Tesla would be making ‘one of the products that we make, that is not our prime product right now [but] one that is perfectly suitable at least in some of these instances.'”

“Musk had talked with Medtronic earlier this month about ventilator production, though it wasn’t clear at the time what he had in mind. As Ars Technica notes, although Tesla has some prodigious engineering chops — and as an automaker already deals with similar types of blowers used in ventilators — it makes sense to use an established design rather than trying to build an all-new ventilator.”
