The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design and development of new ablation products. This position will report to the Engineering Project Manager in Research and Technology. The individual will work on project teams to design, build, and test next generation radiofrequency ablation devices that are used by cardiac surgeons and electrophysiologists. Other responsibilities include the creation and maintenance of 3D CAD models and documentation, design analysis, material research, prototype design, building and testing, design of test fixtures, manufacturing support and interface with the product development team. As a member of a dynamic research group, the Sr. Mechanical Engineer will play a key role in evaluating white space opportunities and unmet needs and in developing technologies that advance the treatment of arrhythmias.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
â€¢Lead initiatives to identify new business opportunities, develop novel clinical procedures and invent disruptive technologies.
â€¢Develop strong relationships with Key Opinion Leaders in the cardiothoracic surgery and cardiology/ electrophysiology spaces.
â€¢Observe clinical procedures to foster collaborative innovation and identify unmet needs.
â€¢Design/Development of medical products and product improvements.
Creation and maintenance of 3D CAD models, assemblies, and prints.
â€¢Building and testing of prototypes to test new ideas and concepts.
â€¢Performing engineering analyses such as: mechanism design and analysis, part fit and tolerance analysis, design for manufacturability validation.
â€¢Evaluate and select components, generate component specifications, as well as functional and test specifications.
â€¢Collaborate with suppliers in the design and procurement of development components.
â€¢Design test fixtures, develop and execute test methods, including writing test reports.
â€¢Compliance to the AtriCure Quality System and company policies.
â€¢BS degree in Mechanical Engineering.
â€¢Demonstrated creativity and proficiency in design of complex assemblies.
â€¢5 years of experience in advanced modeling and document creation using Solidworks CAD.
â€¢Proficiency in advanced GD&T and tolerance analysis.
â€¢Knowledge of general prototyping and manufacturing technologies, including: 3D printing, injection molding processes, low to medium volume manufacturing processes.
â€¢Problem solving/trouble shooting experience.
â€¢Ability to read and understand technical specifications and drawings.
â€¢Knowledge of engineering and manufacturing test equipment design.
â€¢Ability to effectively communicate and operate within a cross-functional work environment.
â€¢Masterâ€™s degree in a technical field of study.
â€¢7 years of experience in advanced modeling and document creation using Solidworks CAD.
â€¢7 years of experience in design of complex medical device assemblies.
â€¢Experienced in developing new procedures and bringing new medical devices to the marketplace.
â€¢Strong working knowledge of cardiac anatomy and electrophysiology.
â€¢Expertise in general prototyping manufacturing technologies.
â€¢Advanced knowledge in GD&T and tolerance analysis.
â€¢Experience collaborating with suppliers in the design and procurement of development components.
â€¢Experience in performing finite element analysis.
â€¢Experience with inspection/testing and data analysis.
â€¢Human Factors and Industrial Design experience.
â€¢Direct experience developing technology radiofrequency or cryothermy technologies.
