The five Black founders of the gBETA Medtech Accelerator gear up for the virtual showcase event

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Global venture firm and startup accelerator, gener8tor, in collaboration with Boston Scientific , University Enterprise Labs and BARDA DRIVe, successfully kicked off the gBETA Medtech fall 2022 accelerator on November 3 with five companies soon to be alumni of the eighth cohort. The medtech accelerator focuses on supporting Black founders with startups that are advancing the medical and healthcare industries through cutting-edge technology and unprecedented platforms.

Startups are now preparing their pitches for the virtual showcase scheduled for Dec. 15 from 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. CT that will conclude the gBETA Medtech Black Founders accelerator. The public is invited to attend and can RSVP here to join.

gener8tor gBETA is a free seven-week, no-equity accelerator program that provides startup founders with intensive concierge coaching and access to its national network of mentors, customers, corporate partners and investors. The programs are designed to set a path for startups to participate in equity-based accelerator programs and investment opportunities.

gener8tor recruited startups nationally for the gBETA Medtech program in an effort to support Black founders.  According to Crunchbase, just 1.2% of overall venture dollars in the U.S. was invested in Black founders as of June of this year. gener8tor and Boston Scientific created this program to help bridge equity gaps and better support Black founders. With more than 90% of gener8tor startups located outside of major tech hubs and 68% of its companies led by underrepresented founders, gener8tor brings to light many of the investment disparities and tremendous potential across the larger venture capital space.

“We’re thrilled to work with Boston Scientific again to continue bolstering the medical technology industry,” said Lauren Usher, gener8tor gBETA vice president. “We’ve seen the incredible economic impact of the gBETA Medtech program in previous cohorts, and we’re excited to see it continue with the success of these five companies.”

“Gener8tor and gBETA Medtech add tremendous value to the local innovation ecosystem here in Minnesota and across the country, and it’s been gratifying to be part of that progress and see its ongoing impact over the years,” said Bryan Clark, MBA, research and development manager at Boston Scientific. “This ongoing collaboration is one way we are proud to continue supporting a more diverse network of medtech founders to ultimately transform patient care, together.”

The team at BARDA added, “We have thoroughly enjoyed working with gener8tor and these impressive underrepresented founders to support their journey to build high-impact companies.”

Startup companies and founders interested in learning more about gBETA’s programming and resources or applying to a future program are encouraged to visit the gener8tor gBETA website.
