MAA Meeting with Gubernatorial Candidate Jeff Johnson

Earlier this month Medical Alley Association and its board members had an opportunity to sit down with gubernatorial candidate Commissioner Jeff Johnson.  The discussion was centered around MAA’s recent working group report, Realizing the Vision, a 10- year strategy that provides a roadmap to ensure Minnesota’s competitiveness.

MAA needs to make certain that the next Governor of this great state understands the importance of Medical Alley; solidifying Minnesota as the global epicenter of Health innovation and care. In order to accomplish this the public and private sectors must work together. Our next Governor’s leadership and policies must encourage investment and growth, attract new talent and prepare our workforce for job growth.  Together we can make Medical Alley the hub of health and innovation. Congressional Candidate Pete Stauber visits, tours MAA Member BRTI

Medical Alley Association headed north this week to visit with Congressional candidate Pete Stauber in Two Harbors. Stauber, a St. Louis County Commissioner, is the GOP-endorsed candidate running for    Congressional District 8, which was previously held by Congressman Rick Nolan. Medical Alley Association had the opportunity to meet with Commissioner Stauber and MAA member Bioactive Regenerative Therapeutics, Inc. (BRTI Life Science).

BRTI Life Science, a company whom benefitted from the Angel Investor Tax Credit, is a Two Harbors-based company that creates matrix technologies for biomedical researchers that provide cell-Mate3D, an injectable matrix and 3D cell culture tool that creates an ideal microenvironment for cell and drug delivery, disease modeling, and regenerative engineering applications. The 3D cell immolates tissue within your body to provide a more human-like setting. BRTI has two facilities, one in Two Harbors and the other in the Twin Cities, connecting Greater Minnesota to the metro. They provide the tools for researchers to be on the cutting edge of innovation to help find cures to diseases like ovarian cancer.

U.S. Senate Candidate Karin Housley tours Smiths Medical, meets with employees

U.S. Senate candidate State Senator Karin Housley visited the Plymouth headquarters of Smiths Medical late last month. Sen. Housley toured the facility and Smiths shared the great work being done there – particularly in the non-opioid pain management space. They also discussed some of the challenges facing the medical technology industry, particularly the looming resumption of the Medical Device Excise Tax in 2020.

Following the tour, Sen. Housley spoke to Smiths employees about why she was running for office, the importance of the medical technology industry to Minnesota, and answered questions. Thank you Sen. Housley for taking the time to come out and visit a great Minnesota based company and learn about what issues are important to them and their employees.
