Vireo’s Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

June 11

The Vireo Team has been deeply saddened by the tragic events unfolding in our hometown of Minneapolis, Minnesota and across the nation.

First and foremost, our hearts go out to all those who have been impacted by racial injustice and racially motivated violence across the country. Sadly, there are too many names to list and that is at the heart of the problem.

As our Founder & CEO, I wanted to make clear to our patients that Vireo unconditionally supports racial justice and is working to promote diversity, racially equity, and inclusion in our company, our local communities, and the entire cannabis industry.

Since our earliest days, diversity has always been a cornerstone of Vireo’s culture. Today, Vireo is one of the most diverse cannabis companies in country. We have over 150 minority employees, representing roughly 35% of our workforce. When expanding diversity metrics to include gender and veterans, over 60% of our employees are female-identifying, minorities, or vets!

We are incredibly proud of this diverse representation, and at the same time we know that we can, and must, do more. It is important that we not only continue to hire diverse teammates, but champion them and promote them from within our team. Vireo’s leadership also believes it is incumbent upon us to ensure that diversity and inclusion become key components of the cannabis industry.

That is why in December, Vireo became the first cannabis company to sign the CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion™ Pledge. The purpose of CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion is to help companies honestly and directly address the concerns and needs of diverse employees and increase equity for all, including Blacks, Latinos, Asians, Native Americans, LGBTQ, disabled, veterans and women.

Vireo has also worked with state governments in New York and Minnesota to lobby for diversity and inclusion initiatives that would help to address the terrible impact that the so-called “War on Drugs” has disproportionately had on minority communities.

We will continue to find ways to improve our efforts, partner with non-profit organizations, and support our team members, patients, and communities in every way we can. This includes the launch of our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council, which will be headed by several of Vireo’s minority leaders.

Thank you for your support as we learn, grow, and advocate together within our company and communities.

Kyle Kingsley, M.D.
