On behalf of our more than 600 members across the spectrum of health technology and care, the Medical Alley Association offers its deep gratitude to Omar Ishrak for his near decade in leading Medtronic from strength to strength. Under his leadership, the company has expanded its influence around the world, became a model for diversity and inclusion initiatives, and built a technology pipeline that positions the company for continued success for years to come.

“Leading an incredibly successful company like Medtronic means working diligently to get high-performing teams to do even better and never letting them settle for less than their best,” said Medical Alley Association President and CEO Shaye Mandle. “The way Medtronic has been able to grow and diversify, while simultaneously nurturing industry-leading talent, shows that there are few in the world who can do that as well as Omar has.”

Succeeding Ishrak as CEO is Geoff Martha, who led the company’s $43 billion acquisition and successful integration of Covidien. That acquisition brought with it the Puritan Bennett ventilator line that has been critical in the fight against COVID-19.

“When this transition was announced last August, no one could have imagined it would take place in the middle of a global pandemic,” Mandle said. “But Medtronic has looked to Geoff to take on big challenges in the past and he has always risen to them. He is steeped in Medtronic’s culture and has the kind of vision necessary to guide the company through this period of disruption. We’re excited to work with Geoff to continue Medical Alley’s growth as the Global Epicenter of Health Innovation and Care.™”
