“As more businesses are making difficult decisions to limit staffing to reduce risk of exposure during the global coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, many Minnesotans are now facing the reality of missed paychecks and very real concerns about how to put food on the table.”

“In response, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota announced earlier today that the company has committed $750,000 to Second Harvest Heartland’s COVID-19 response plan.”

“‘This is one way in which we are addressing the inequity of food access in this uncertain time. We all need to commit to taking action for the sake of our communities,’ says Dr. Mark Steffen, vice president and chief medical officer at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota.”

“‘Nutrition plays a critical role in keeping people healthy, especially in the face of a pandemic,’ Dr. Steffen went on to say. ‘Keeping people as healthy as possible is particularly important right now. Ensuring people have enough to eat is a fundamental part of prevention and overall wellness.'”
