Initial Johns Hopkins study delivers promising results related to efficacy

Austin, Texas: CamWell by Unitech Medical, an industry leader in non-toxic, oncologist-developed herbal creams and lotions, bolstered their impressive industry resume while being featured in a recent Johns Hopkins medical study. The results of the study were presented at the 2019 AACR-AHNS Combined Otolaryngology Spring Meetings in Austin, TX. The aforementioned conference presents itself with a focus on optimizing survival and quality of life through basic, clinical, and translational cancer research.

The CamWell Herb to Soothe product is designed to aid in the healing of skin damaged by radiation therapy. The Johns Hopkins study analyzed patients suffering from the side effects of Acute Radiation-Induced Skin Dermatitis (RSID). RSID is a dose-dependant skin reaction experienced in 95% of patients receiving radiation therapy.

Patient outcomes are often negatively impacted by RSID due to the associated pain and cosmetic changes that come along with the condition. As such, patients observed in this study completed an outcome questionnaire known as Skindex prior to receiving treatment. The Skindex protocol is used to measure the level of patient bother due to symptoms of RSID, as well as their overall quality of life – a higher Skindex score correlates to worse patient discomfort and lower quality of life.

For the purposes of this study, patients were organized into three groups:

  • Prophylactic – Patient started use of CamWell product in first week of treatment
  • Therapeutic – Patient started use of CamWell product after first week of treatment
  • Standard of Care – Patient used alternate skin agent or no skin agent

Results were analyzed over the course of six-weeks. Upon completion of the study, the CamWell Herb to Soothe product was determined to be more effective than the standard of care or therapeutic intervention at minimizing level of patient bother measured by Skindex.

Additionally, the pilot observational study demonstrated that CamWell may be an efficacious agent for the management of RSID.

CamWell’s Herb to Soothe cream is oncologist-formulated, and safe to use before, during, and after radiation treatment for all cancer survivors, including those with breast cancer. The Herb to Soothe formula combines the wisdom of traditional medicine with the power of clinical research – the result is a plethora of benefits for its users, including:

  • A non-toxic, botanical water based formula
  • A maximum strength blend with multiple benefits in one convenient lotion
  • Delivery of gentle, powerful, natural relief
  • Soothing and healing of itchy, painful areas
  • Relief of tenderness
  • Only a small amount of product needed to achieve maximum therapeutic benefit

CamWell Oncology Care offers a full line of safe, non-toxic, oncologist-developed creams and lotions to aid in the skin healing process throughout, during, and after treatment. The company also assists patients undergoing chemotherapy treatment with its Hand to Heal product, which was not part of this particular study.
