Minnesota’s Congressional Delegation Again Takes the Lead on Repealing the Medical Device Tax

January 19

After leading the passage of a 2-year suspension of the ACA’s medical device tax, Minnesota’s Congressional Delegation is delivering unified leadership on securing full repeal in 2017.

In the U.S. House, Erik Paulsen (MN-3) has introduced HR 184, The Protect Medical Innovation Act of 2017. Paulsen’s bill includes 234 Co-Sponsors and features the entire Minnesota House Delegation, including Betty McCollum, Colin Peterson, Tom Emmer, Tim Walz, Rick Nolan, Keith Ellison and Jason Lewis.

In the U.S. Senate, Orrin Hatch (UT) has partnered with Amy Klobuchar (MN) to introduce full repeal legislation, S.108. Joining the list of 9 Co-Sponsor leaders is Al Franken (MN).

Minnesota’s Medical Alley is the world’s leading health technology cluster, including the top global ranking in health technology innovation and the most densely concentrated medical technology community on the planet. As Minnesota goes, so goes U.S. healthcare and innovation. The medical device tax has disproportionally impacted Minnesota’s economy, with nearly 30% of the total device tax impacting Minnesota. Today, Minnesota’s Health Technology industries have an annual impact of $23B on the state.

Medical Alley salutes our leaders and champions in Washington!
